Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has advanced to the final of the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after winning her semifinal race on Monday.
The 28-year-old clocked 12.36 seconds in the second semifinal heat, finishing ahead of Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, who posted 12.45 seconds, and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, who ran 12.51 seconds to secure third place.
Amusan, drawn in lane four, faced a strong field that included Visser, who recently ran a personal best of 12.28 seconds, Skrzyszowska with a season’s best of 12.51 seconds, and the United States’ Alaysha Johnson, who has clocked 12.32 seconds this year. The Nigerian hurdler executed a clean start and maintained her lead through the finish to secure automatic qualification.
Her performance sets up her fourth consecutive appearance in a World Championships final. The women’s 100m hurdles final is scheduled for Tuesday in Tokyo.
