President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated businessman Farouk Gumel and athletics star Tobi Amusan for what he described as remarkable achievements that bring pride to the nation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president said Gumel’s appointment as chairman of Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited reflected international recognition of Nigerian professionals.

“As Vice Chairman for Africa at the Tropical General Investment Group, among other accomplishments, Gumel has remained a consistent player in Nigeria’s determined efforts in food sufficiency. His leadership in this significant role brings immense pride to our nation,” Tinubu said. He added that Gumel’s expertise and track record would further cement Nigeria’s reputation in global finance.

The president also lauded Amusan for winning a silver medal in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Tinubu described her resilience and determination as qualities that continue to inspire millions of Nigerians.

“Tobi has once again demonstrated that with patriotic fervour, coupled with hard work and determination, any height is surmountable. Her achievement is a source of national pride,” Tinubu said.

Amusan, who made history in 2022 by becoming the first Nigerian world champion in athletics after winning gold in the 100m hurdles at the World Championships in Oregon, has since established herself as one of Africa’s leading athletes.

Gumel, an accountant and corporate leader, has held key roles in international finance and agribusiness. His appointment to chair Botswana’s sovereign wealth fund shows the growing presence of Nigerian executives in global institutions.

Tinubu assured both Gumel and Amusan of the federal government’s support as they continue to excel in their respective fields.
