World football governing body FIFA has officially opened disciplinary proceedings against the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena.

In a letter addressed to SAFA on September 15, 2025, FIFA confirmed that both the association and the player are facing charges of breaching multiple disciplinary regulations, including allegations of fielding an ineligible player.

The matter has now been referred to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, with SAFA and Mokoena given six days to submit their defense.
