The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has announced the revocation of broadcasting licenses for at least 42 television stations across the country.

As per a gazette notice issued by CA Director General David Mugonyi, this revocation will take effect within a week.

The notice highlights that all assets belonging to the affected stations must be returned to the authority immediately upon cancellation of their licenses. Consequently, these stations will be prohibited from continuing operations or providing broadcasting services.

“This notification is made pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act (Cap. 411), indicating that the Communications Authority of Kenya will revoke the postal licenses of the listed service providers within seven days from the date of this Gazette Notice. After the revocation, the licensees will no longer be authorized to operate and offer these services,” the notice reads.

This move comes approximately five months after the CA shut down over 58 television stations across the country.
