Nigeria international Alex Iwobi played a decisive role in Fulham’s 3-1 comeback victory over Brentford in a Premier League London derby on Saturday.
Fulham had fallen behind early in the first half after a misplaced pass from Josh King was intercepted by Mikkel Damsgaard, who calmly slotted the ball into the corner.
The hosts responded in the 38th minute when Iwobi reacted quickly to a rebound from Sasa Lukic’s shot that had looped high into a crowded box, guiding Fulham level.
Just two minutes later, Iwobi created the opening that restored Fulham’s lead. The midfielder split Brentford’s defence with a precise through ball that found Harry Wilson, who finished clinically to make it 2-1.
Fulham tightened their grip after the restart, with Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock turning Ryan Sessegnon’s cross into his own net, extending the lead to 3-1.
Iwobi, who had been doubtful for the game due to an ankle injury, was named Man of the Match. Fulham’s manager praised his influence, highlighting his work rate and creativity.
“Iwobi was central to everything we did well today. He gave us balance and that crucial edge in the final third,” the coach said after the match.
The midfielder also reflected on the result, saying: “I just wanted to help the team get back into the game after we conceded. It was about staying focused and making the most of the chances that came our way.”
The victory lifted Fulham to seventh place in the Premier League table with eight points from five matches.
