Veteran singer Salawa Abeni has addressed rumours of her death, making it clear that she is alive and in good health.

Naija News reports that the 63-year-old music star took to Instagram on Wednesday with a video where she assured her family, friends, and fans both in Nigeria and abroad that the reports were false.

She also sang briefly in the video, declaring that she is strong and well.

Salawa Abeni, popularly known as the Queen of Waka, rose to fame in the 1970s and made history as the first Yoruba female artiste to sell over a million copies of an album with her debut release in honour of the late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.

The singer urged her supporters to ignore misleading reports and expressed gratitude for the love and concern shown towards her.

She said: “My family, friends, and fans home and abroad. Thank you so much for your love and concern. I am alive, hail, and hearty. Please disregard all the rumours. Some blogs will do the unthinkable just to trend. It is rather shameful. The Queen is fine and doing very well. May God bless you all 🙏🏽. Anyone wishing me dead will go before me.”
