FAME Foundation has partnered with former Eurpean champions, Manchester City FC and global appliance leader, Midea, to launch a new community initiative in Lagos.

With this, FAME Foundation has joined other NGOs in four African countries, Kenya, Angola, South Africa, and Morocco, to empower young children through football and education.

The project will be implemented in Lagos under “Our Play It Dream It initiative,” a programme that uses the power of sport, particularly football, to educate, inspire and empower young people.

The partnership, according to organisers of the programme, is the first of its kind in Nigeria, and is a big step for community football development in the country.

Through the partnership with Manchester City and Midea, FAME Foundation will conduct community football activities that promote the health, leadership development, and confidence of young people in Lagos.

The programme will also make community football hubs safe and welcoming places where children can learn, play, and grow. In an official statement published on Manchester City’s website, Tom Pitchon, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at City Football Group, said: “Through this partnership, we are using football and Midea products to uplift the lives of young people around the world.” The community football projects we are supporting will provide young people in cities across the globe with a home away from home, while promoting health, life skills, confidence, new friendships, and leadership opportunities.”

Also speaking, the Regional Sales Director at Midea Africa, Bright Yao, added; “At Midea, we value social responsibility, and we believe in making technology accessible with purpose and this initiative does exactly that. By bringing our products to grassroots communities and partnering with local organisations, we’re not just providing appliances we are helping to create safe, inspiring spaces where young people can thrive. These are the kinds of real-life impacts that matter to us and to the future of the communities that we serve.”
