In a recent chat with Biola Bayo, the 52-year-old revealed that she has turned down numerous marriage proposals because she hasn’t met a partner who truly suits her. She emphasized that remaining single doesn’t trouble her, noting that choosing the right person matters far more than giving in to social pressure.
Akintola observed that many women are rushed into marriage for the wrong reasons, a trend she believes contributes to the high rate of broken homes and divorces in Nigeria.
The actress also highlighted the importance of raising boys and girls with equal responsibility. She said young men should be taught accountability just as much as young women. According to her, any man who fathers a child should accept full responsibility instead of carrying on with school or other plans as if nothing happened.
Addressing online harassment, Akintola advised women to focus on men who work hard and are willing to grow together, rather than basing their choices solely on wealth.
She said: “For me not to have found my partner, the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, I don’t see it as a negative. I’ve been proposed to many times, and I’ve said no.
“Did you just marry because people say marry? Look at divorce ratings now in Nigeria, it’s skyrocketing. Some people are married before they leave the reception if the marriage has broken up.
“Teach your sons that their body is the temple of God the same way you teach your daughters. As soon as you impregnate a girl, no more school for you, my dear. Go and work and raise your child.
“Don’t focus on rich men. Focus on men who are hardworking and ready to grow with you.”
