- The warning is based on potential dangers associated with scrubbing the body with a sponge.
A lady has urged Nigerians to stop using sponges during their baths, emphasizing that bathing should be done solely with soap and water.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, she highlighted the potential dangers of scrubbing the body with a sponge.
Holding a sponge as an example, she admitted it might be “too late” for her advice to reach some, but she felt compelled to warn people against using sponges while bathing.
She said: “Don’t use sponge to bathe, I no say e don dey too late for me to advise una. I no say una be my oga and madam.”
The woman explained that scrubbing with a sponge can create tiny cuts on the skin, referred to as “micro tears.” These small openings, she said, allow microorganisms to enter the body, which can result in skin infections.
She also stressed that the skin naturally produces oils that serve as protection and should not be removed unnecessarily. Stripping away these oils, she noted, often leads to itchiness and discomfort after bathing.
She further advised that only people who are exposed to very dirty or physically demanding work might benefit from using a sponge. For those in offices or performing lighter duties, she recommended avoiding sponges altogether.
