Singer Mr Real has revealed that he regrets featuring Idowest on his breakout hit Legbegbe, stating that the move reduced the song’s potential and affected his career growth.
In a recent interview, Mr Real explained that he wished the track had been released as a solo effort, stressing that it could have placed him on the same level as leading Afrobeats stars such as Wizkid and Burna Boy.
The artist further disclosed that Wizkid once reached out for a remix of the song, but the plan never materialized due to industry complications allegedly tied to D’banj. He described the missed opportunity as a huge setback that could have boosted the record’s global impact.
Released in 2017, Legbegbe became a nationwide street anthem and brought Mr Real into the limelight. However, he insists that certain choices made during its release stopped him from fully capitalizing on its success.
He partly said:
“I regret bringing Idowest into that song. I regret am. I wish say na only me sing that song. If say na only me sing that song na me and their Burna Boy and Wizkid for dey. Shay you know say Wizkid come for remix of Legbegbe. This one wey I dey tell you na exclusive. Wizkid called for the remix of Legbegbe. This thing no happen, all because of D’banj…”
In a report earlier released by Gistreel, Mr Real also accused D’banj of allegedly exploiting him during their two years of working together, claiming that all he got from the relationship was just 500 dollars.
