  • Akintola highlighted a “shortage of men” as a reason for women to consider sharing a husband.

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has brought polygamy back into public discussion during her recent appearance on the Talk To B podcast.

The 55-year-old actress described polygamy as not only cultural but also practical in modern times. She argued that the “shortage of men” makes it sensible for women to share a husband.

GistLover had earlier reported that in another interview, Akintola revealed why she remains single and without children despite her age.

Reflecting on her generation, she explained that many Yoruba households she grew up around practiced polygamy. It was normalized in society, she said, with both advantages and disadvantages attached.

She stated:

“Most of Generation X, Yorubas, and even our parents had two to three wives. It was something we saw while growing up.”

The actress went on to share a personal example of how some women willingly embraced the idea. She recalled a woman who, faced with her husband’s stronger bedroom drive, personally found him another wife just to maintain her peace.

According to Akintola, not every second marriage is forced on women—some choose it themselves.

She emphasized that if women want a future where men stay committed to one wife, then the responsibility lies in how they raise their sons.

In her words:

“All these men we are talking about, who are polygamous and cheat, were raised by someone. Raise your son to be that kind of man so that future women, your daughters, will have men like that to marry.”
