Zenith Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Abdulazeez Rislana Kanya as an independent non-executive director and the retirement of Henry Oroh as executive director.

This was contained in a disclosure signed by the company secretary, Michael Otu, 26 September.


The bank said Mr Kanya’s appointment took effect on 24 September, following confirmation by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Mr Kanya graduated with a B.Sc (Hons) in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom, in 2008.

He obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Wales at Thames Business School, Singapore, in 2010, and a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in Computing, specialising in Information and Communications Technologies for Development (ICT4D), from the University of Portsmouth.

He also attended Informatics Academy, Singapore, between 2004 and 2005, where he obtained an International Diploma in Computing and an International Advanced Diploma in Computing. In 2006, he trained at C-Tech Incorporation, Spatter, New Jersey, United States, and became a certified instructor for copper-based networking, fibre optics-based networking, and integrated systems in voice and message.

The bank described Mr Kanya as “a practitioner and a scholar of Information and Communications Telecommunications for Development (ICT4D) with diversified experience in Information Systems, Digital Transformation, Change Management and Business Process Re-engineering.

“He is a resourceful and focused ICT specialist with considerable exposure in Enterprise Architecture, Project/Programme Management, ICT for Development, Business Continuity and Resilience, Higher Education Planning, Administration, Evaluation and Optimisation.”

Mr Kanya has attended several local and international workshops and seminars. He is a Chartered Member of the British Computer Society (CITP, MBCS), a Member of the Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (MCPN), a Member of the Nigeria Computer Society (MNCS), a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE), USA, a Member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (MNIM), and a Member of the Association of Information Systems, among others.

Between April 2017 and August 2024, he served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, IT, Research and Innovation, at Baze University, Abuja.

In a related development, the bank said Henry Oroh will retire from the board with effect from 30 September, following the expiration of his tenure as executive director. His retirement was approved by the board of directors at its meeting on 22 September.

“The Board wishes Mr Oroh success in his future endeavours,” the disclosure said.
