Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is steadily reshaping the development landscape of the state through a blend of visionary investment drives, bold infrastructure execution, grassroots empowerment, and a clear focus on transparency.

From strategic partnerships in power generation to the completion of age-long road projects, his administration is delivering projects that speak to both present needs and future aspirations.

Power And Industrial Growth Through Jampur Partnership
In Asaba recently, Governor Oborevwori advanced his administration’s investment agenda with a strategic engagement with the Jampur Group.
The discussions centred on transformative projects in gas-powered electricity, renewable energy, and fertilizer production, initiatives designed to provide stable power, strengthen Delta’s industrial base and create thousands of jobs.

“We had a very successful meeting with the Jampur Group,” the governor said. “We discussed gas-powered electricity from production to distribution to ensure Delta State is not only energy-sufficient but also able to power its growth.”

Jampur Group’s CEO, Mohammad Shafiq, described the partnership as promising, pointing to the new Electricity Act of 2023 which allows states to regulate their own power. He disclosed plans to commence with a floating 100-megawatt power board, similar to one in Lagos, and to expand into fertilizer blending, solar panel manufacturing, and smart metering.

For Oborevwori, this engagement reflects the heart of his MORE Agenda, expanding opportunities, modernising infrastructure, and repositioning Delta as an investment destination. If actualised, the Jampur partnership promises not only energy-sufficiency but also agricultural and industrial transformation.

Strengthening Local Governance
Beyond big-ticket projects, Oborevwori has emphasised grassroots governance as the foundation of sustainable development. At the Delta State Councillors’ Forum Symposium 2025, themed ‘Repositioning the Grassroots: Strengthening Local Governance for Sustainable Development in Nigeria in the Wake of Local Government Autonomy,’ he challenged local government chairmen and councillors to maximise the opportunities offered by the Supreme Court’s judgment on full financial autonomy for local governments.

“With this autonomy, it is expected that development at the grassroots will be enhanced and unhindered by political interference,” he declared, adding that “Chairmen and councillors must now deliver on their mandate without excuses.”

He stressed the need for proactive security at ward levels, urged civility in tax collection, and directed local government chairmen to carry councillors along in ward-based projects. For him, councillorship must remain “about service, sacrifice, and accountability,” serving as the true bridge between government and the people.

Oborevwori Pays Condolence Visit To Ibru Family
The governor on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the Ibru family at their Apapa residence in Lagos, following the passing of Olorogun Oskar Ibru.

Oborevwori, who signed the condolence register opened by the family, prayed God to grant Mrs. Wanda Ibru and the entire Ibru family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Defying Political Distractions
As the political climate begins to warm ahead of the 2027 general election, the governor has also faced criticism from opponents. But his government insists it remains unfazed.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the administration would not be distracted by “campaigns of calumny.”

Flanked by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Aniagwu noted that Oborevwori’s consistency in delivering projects ranging from functional schools during national strikes to rural and riverine road construction was evidence of a people-oriented government.

“For Governor Oborevwori, enhanced peace and security are non-negotiable because development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. Those who try to paint him otherwise are simply out of tune with reality,” Aniagwu said.

A Trillion Naira Budget For 2026
If there was any doubt about his administration’s development focus, the proposed 2026 budget has laid it to rest. At a citizens’ engagement forum, the governor revealed plans for a ₦1 trillion budget, with 67 per cent allocated to capital projects.

“This administration has worked tirelessly to ensure fiscal discipline, transparency, and accountability,” he said at the event where he was represented by Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen. He highlighted significant achievements of his administration in revenue generation without imposing extra burdens on citizens, noting improvements in tax compliance, plugging leakages, and widening the tax net. These measures have allowed Delta to reduce its debt profile while sustaining infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social investment projects.

Community leaders and civil society representatives commended the people-oriented approach of the administration, describing the engagement as proof of transparency and inclusivity in governance.

Data As Development Tool
Oborevwori has also placed emphasis on data-driven decision-making as a tool for long-term development. At the Second International Conference of the Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON) in Asaba, he called for a robust national data ecosystem, stressing that “the true promise of big data lies not in the sheer volume of numbers collected, but in our capacity to transform those numbers into actionable knowledge.”

He disclosed that his administration had funded multiple surveys including poverty mapping, GDP studies, and labour force analyses that informed interventions reaching over 300,000 poor and vulnerable households.

“As we transit into an era where knowledge, information, and technology driven economic growth, the imperative of a robust and integrated national data ecosystem cannot be overemphasised,” he said.

Breaking Barriers With Trans-Warri–Ode-Itsekiri Road
Perhaps, the single clearest evidence of Oborevwori’s commitment to completing long-stalled projects is the progress of work on the Trans-Warri–Ode-Itsekiri Road. Nineteen years after its commencement, all bridges on the main alignment have now been completed, with just seven kilometers of road work left.

During an inspection visit, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, described the moment as historic.
“For the first time, we were able to drive smoothly into Ode-Itsekiri. This project once seemed like one that would never be completed, but Governor Oborevwori’s leadership has brought it to this point,” Izeze said.

Setraco’s Project Manager, George Maron, confirmed that the project is on track for completion before the end of 2025, praising the governor’s consistency in its funding. Once inaugurated, the road will transform connectivity to the Itsekiri heartland and stimulate economic, cultural, and social integration.

A Development Path Marked By Consistency
From high-level investment talks to grassroots empowerment, from fiscal discipline to infrastructure breakthroughs, Oborevwori’s governance style has been marked by consistency, inclusivity, and a stoic refusal to be distracted.

For him, the test of leadership is not in rhetoric but in visible outcomes – reliable power, functional local governments, prudent budgets, actionable data, and roads that connect communities after decades of waiting.

If the current trajectory holds, and there is hardly any reason to doubt it will, Delta State, under Oborevwori, may not just record milestones but set a new benchmark for governance in Nigeria’s evolving democratic journey.
