A chieftain of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), Rev. Gabriel Attai, has said supporters of the party are tired of being used as pawns in the hands of politicians in Kogi State.
Attai stated this after dumping the SDP for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The former divisional chairman of the SDP in Dekina announced that he had moved to the NNPP with the entire local government structure of the party, four days after his resignation.
“We are tired of being used as mere pawns in the game of politics. We want a new era of true liberation — where politicians serve the people, not themselves,” Attai said. “We felt betrayed by the party leadership. They promised us change but delivered nothing but the same old politics.”

Welcoming Attai and his supporters, the NNPP leader in Kogi, Hon. Umar Eniji, praised his courage, commitment to the people, and willingness to challenge the status quo, saying they align perfectly with the NNPP’s values and mission.

Eniji described the defection as a major political breakthrough for the NNPP and an opportunity to strengthen its presence across Kogi East.

“We are committed to serving the people and building a better future for all. With Rev. Attai’s experience and grassroots support, our movement will grow stronger and more effective,” he said.

Attai declared that the move was not just a change of party but a transformation in Kogi’s political landscape. “We are not just changing parties; we are changing the game. In the history of Kogi East politics, no party has ever recorded a victory this monumental,” he added.
