The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has said that Kano people will reciprocate the goodwill of President Bola Tinubu with massive votes in the 2027 general election.
The ranking senator representing Kano North Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber declared that President Tinubu’s developmental impact in Kano is sufficient to earn Kano’s mandate.
Senator Barau gave the assurance on Monday during the unveiling of the Students’ Scholarship Initiative under his foundation at Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
He disclosed that part of President Tinubu’s remarkable gestures includes the approval for the upgrade of the Federal College of Education to a Federal University of Education, which was also named after elder statesman Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule.
The Deputy Senate President noted that the struggle to actualise the upgrade lasted nearly ten years, adding that President Tinubu’s swift approval demonstrated his administration’s commitment to human capital development.
Barau emphasised that Tinubu’s particular interest in infrastructural growth and human capital development in the North is evident in the number of political appointments and projects spread across the region.
To further reaffirm his commitment to educational advancement, Barau announced the provision of scholarships for all students from the Kano North Senatorial District in the university, with a promise to extend the same gesture to students from other regions.
“I would like to thank Mr President, the president we are all proud of, the president who loves Kano, who loves Northern Nigeria, and who loves Nigeria. He graciously approved our long-standing request to upgrade this institution to a university, and for that, we remain deeply grateful.
“We have never asked or canvassed for anything from Mr President and received a ‘no.’ Why shouldn’t we love Mr President? We have to reciprocate, and we are waiting for the time to do that come 2027,” Barau said.
The senator emphasised the significance of education as the bedrock of development in any society and urged students of the institution to focus on their academic pursuits.
Earlier, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, cited President Tinubu’s N200 billion standard gauge light rail investment running between Kaduna and Kano.
The minister stressed that President Tinubu has demonstrated a sincere commitment to enhancing the standard of living in Kano, considering the president’s approval for the construction of 750 housing units in the state.
The Vice-Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Professor Abdullahi Tukur Kadage, applauded Senator Barau for his “visionary leadership and unwavering support” for the institution, recalling that the university’s establishment stemmed from a bill sponsored by Barau at the National Assembly.
“The establishment of this university is the brainchild of the distinguished senator. He initiated the bill that gave birth to this institution and has continued to support it through projects, infrastructure, and advocacy. Today, we are witnessing yet another milestone through his scholarship initiative for our students,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
