- Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for the arrest of activist Omoyele Sowore.
- Speaking with News Central, Fayose accused Tinubu of attempting to silence dissenting voices, arguing that Sowore was fighting for justice and the welfare of Nigerians, including police officers.
- He questioned why peaceful protests are being suppressed under Tinubu, comparing the situation to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s era when Tinubu was allowed to protest freely.
Isaac Fayose, the brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has condemned President Bola Tinubu over the arrest of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore.
Sowore was arrested on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja shortly after showing solidarity with detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking in an interview with News Central, Fayose expressed disappointment over the activist’s detention and accused President Tinubu of trying to silence critics.
According to him, Sowore had always been a voice for justice and had advocated for the welfare of police officers, including their pension and gratuity, yet the same officers were being used to arrest him.
He said, “No, you see the police and the law enforcement agents we have now are cash and carry. They can carry me tomorrow, I don’t care, because they are suffering. Someone is fighting for you to be a better person, to get your pension, to demand your rights, and yet you are still serving your slave masters.
“Abroad, protests are peaceful. Why all the barricades, the shootings, and intimidation here? Millions of Nigerians share Sowore’s view. When Tinubu was outside power, did former President Goodluck Jonathan arrest him? Jonathan allowed him to protest freely. So why is Tinubu doing harm to us now?
“Omoyele Sowore has done the needful. He was out to ask for our rights. Any Nigerian who refuses to demand their rights is committing a sin against God and humanity.”
Fayose went on to describe Sowore as a true patriot and hero, urging Nigerians not to abandon those who speak up for justice.
He added, “Omoyele Sowore is our hero. We don’t have another one.”
