Katie Thurston “Very Optimistic” for 6-Month Scan Amid Breast Cancer Battle (Exclusive)
Drew Barrymore is giving a glimpse into her health.
The talk show host shared that she had recently had a breast cancer “scare” after getting her annual mammogram, revealing what it was like to have to go through additional tests.
“This was the thing I wanted to risk talking about on this show because I recently had a scare,” Drew explained on the Nov. 3 episode of the Drew Barrymore Show. “I’m completely fine, but I did get a bad mammogram and I got taken into that room.”
She added, “Then I had an emergency biopsy and I waited those five days.”
Her guest Tig Notaro, who is a breast cancer survivor, noted, “It’s a long wait.”
Over the years, Drew has been a major proponent of cancer screenings, even filming herself getting a mammogram last October to help viewers “overcome their fears” of getting checked.
Donning a hospital gown, the Never Been Kissed actress announced, “I’m about to put my breasts in a machine known as a mammogram.” A technician guided Drew as she underwent the X-ray process, explaining each step to the audience.
