Meta Platforms has announced plans to invest $600 billion across the United States over the coming years to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) and data center infrastructure.

”At Meta, we’re focused on inventing the next generation of AI products and establishing personal superintelligence for everyone. To achieve these objectives and keep America at the forefront of technology, data centers are essential. That’s why we’re investing in building industry-leading AI data centers right here in the US. By 2028, we plan to invest more than $600 billion in the US to support infrastructure, workforce growth, and AI technologies. Our investments are already showing results.”

Artificial intelligence is reshaping the world’s digital infrastructure, and Meta’s unprecedented investment positions the U.S. at the forefront of that transformation.

Meta highlighted that its upcoming facilities will focus on sustainability, incorporating renewable energy partnerships and advanced cooling technologies to minimize environmental impact. “We’re currently driving over $20 billion in business to subcontractors across the U.S., supporting steelworkers, pipefitters, electricians, fiber technicians, and others who are constructing the next generation of AI-optimized data centers,” the company stated.

Their data center designs prioritize minimizing water usage and are far more efficient than the industry standard. ”We actively restore water to watersheds in the regions hosting our data centers and aim to achieve water positivity by 2030.”

Meta’s move underscores how the race to secure compute and data infrastructure has become central to leadership in AI. As AI becomes increasingly important, data centers will play an even bigger role.
