Nigerian fashion designer, Veekee James has sparked reactions after stating that she admires women who don’t wait for their husbands’ money but instead feed their children and pay the bills themselves.
Speaking at the ‘LadiesTalk’ conferences, the timeless designer highlighted her admiration for women who work hard with their own hands to support their families.

In her words, she said:
“And the one that stands out the most is that she does not wait around for her husband’s money, she feeds her home, she works hard with her own hand, she feeds her husband, her children, and staffs.”
While some applauded Veekee for promoting financial independence, the majority of reactions were critical.
Many slammed her, arguing that her remarks were tone-deaf and reflected her own personal struggle rather than a universal truth.
Critics pointed out that Veekee herself is not privileged to marry a rich man, suggesting that her admiration for women “feeding their husbands” stems from her own reality of having to provide for her household.
A commentator said, “She’s speaking from her own lack of privilege. Not every woman has to be a breadwinner to be independent.” Another wrote, “Some women actually rely on their husbands. Why glorify struggle?”
Veekee James’ comments have dominated social media platforms, igniting a heated debate about financial independence, and societal expectations.
