Google Cloud has announced a major multi-million-dollar agreement with the NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) to deliver advanced, sovereign cloud capabilities designed to meet the Alliance’s highest security and data-governance requirements. The partnership represents a significant milestone in strengthening NATO’s digital foundation, enhancing its ability to protect mission-critical information, and enabling secure adoption of next-generation cloud and AI technologies.
As part of the agreement, NCIA has selected Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) to support the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC). With GDC, JATEC will modernize its operational environment, streamline data-driven activities, and manage sensitive and classified workloads with improved agility and resilience.
A central component of the solution is GDC air-gapped, Google’s fully isolated, sovereign cloud infrastructure engineered to operate without any internet connectivity. This platform brings the full power of Google’s cloud and AI tools into highly restricted environments where security, autonomy, and control are paramount. By enabling modern AI, analytics, and data-processing workloads in completely disconnected settings, GDC air-gapped empowers organisations to extract insights from their most sensitive data while meeting the strictest sovereignty and compliance requirements.
Through this deployment, NATO will benefit from uncompromised data residency, granular operational controls, and a scalable architecture designed to support evolving mission demands. The contract highlights Google Cloud’s commitment to working with institutions entrusted with safeguarding some of the world’s most critical data and infrastructure.
“Google Cloud is dedicated to supporting NATO’s mission by helping build a resilient digital backbone and enabling the Alliance to harness cutting-edge technological innovation,” said Tara Brady, President of Google Cloud EMEA. “This partnership will accelerate NATO’s digital modernization while ensuring the highest levels of security and digital sovereignty.”
Antonio Calderon, Chief Technology Officer at NCIA, emphasized the agency’s focus on integrating advanced technologies to strengthen NATO’s operational readiness. “NCIA is committed to using next-generation tools, including AI, to enhance NATO’s capabilities and protect the Alliance’s digital landscape. Collaboration with industry is vital to our transformation strategy. Through this partnership, we will deliver a secure, scalable and resilient cloud environment for JATEC that meets the stringent standards required to safeguard highly sensitive data.”
This collaboration marks a forward-looking step in NATO’s digital evolution, reinforcing the Alliance’s preparedness in an increasingly complex technological and security landscape.
