Actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has shared a story about the type of roles she was offered when she was new in Nollywood.
Naija News reports that during The Honest Bunch podcast, she said her early days came with strange scripts that made her question the kind of image she wanted to build.
She explained that one of the first scripts she received asked her to act a scene involving a dog.
She refused the role because she felt it would follow her for the rest of her career, especially as a newcomer.
She said she walked away from the project, even though other young actresses quickly accepted the script.
According to her, she left the location shortly after and later met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who showed interest in working with her.
She said that meeting opened the door for her first appearance in the movie Through The Fire, produced by Imem Isong.
Nkechi Blessing said that this early experience taught her to be careful about the roles she accepts and the image she builds in the industry.
She said: “Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies.
“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today.”
