Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan added another global accolade to her athletic career after securing the silver medal in the women’s 100 metres hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday.
Amusan completed the race in 12.29 seconds, finishing behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who set a new Swiss national record of 12.24 seconds. The United States’ Grace Stark took the bronze with a time of 12.34 seconds, while another American, Masai Russell, finished fourth in 12.44 seconds.
The Nigerian hurdler had qualified for the final after a strong semifinal performance, recording 12.36 seconds. In the final, she maintained composure and technique against a competitive field of international athletes.
This silver medal adds to Amusan’s record of international achievements. The former world record holder has represented Nigeria in multiple global events, demonstrating consistency in the 100m hurdles.
Her performance in Tokyo continues Nigeria’s presence in the sprint hurdles on the world stage, reinforcing the country’s status in international athletics.
