Former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (rtd), will head the technical committee for the yearly Government College Ughelli Relays (GCU Relays), which holds on November 22, the organisers have said.

President General Worldwide of Government College Ughelli Old Boys’ Association (GCUOBA), Albert Akpomudje, said the choice of Nesiama as the new technical director follows the resounding successes he recorded while serving on the board of AFN.

He noted that there was the need to re-energise the technical subcommittee for the seventh GCU Relays, which logically serves as the engine room of the Inter-Collegiate Meet.

While accepting the challenge of leading the technical department, Nesiama said that he will bring to the party his tremendous wealth of experience in athletics from numerous involvements in Africa and World Athletics, as well as tap on the experience of GCU Relays Ambassador and Olympian, Ruks Bazunu.

“I eagerly look forward to raising the bar at the seventh GCU Relays,” Nesiama said, in response to the appointment. Apart from the Nesiama, Clement Djebah was named the head of the Contact, Mobilisation and Sponsorship Sub-committee, with Gordons Egbedi and Mozimo Okosubide as members.

The medical sub-committee is headed by Ancient Mariner, Dr Richard Obiuvwewi, while Assistant National Secretary General, Happy Odjimogho is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the various sub-committees.

The seventh GCU Relays will hold on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the school tartan tracks built and donated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
