Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has dismissed reports claiming he was appointed as the South West coordinator of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 presidential consultation team.

Describing the reports as baseless and unfounded, Mimiko said neither he nor Jonathan is seeking political appointments or campaign roles.

Some media outlets had reported that Mimiko was selected to lead consultations for Jonathan’s purported 2027 political move, allegedly on the recommendation of former Osun State governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola.

Although Jonathan has not declared any intention to contest in the 2027 general election, speculation has been rife about his possible return to the political scene.

However, in a statement issued by his former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, Mimiko described the report as entirely false and a product of unfounded rumours.

“The falsehood in the report is obvious from the start. It is just the work of a journalist flying with concocted rumours dressed as news,” Akinsola stated.

“The Mimiko that I know respects former President Jonathan but has neither been contacted nor appointed for any campaign that remains a subject of speculation. He is also not job-hunting.

“As politics gathers momentum, such fabricated stories will not be scarce, especially about political figures like Iroko, who have chosen to stay low for now,” the statement added.
