Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, has revealed that the state government has consistently prevented a significant number of planned attacks through proactive intelligence and robust security measures.
Speaking on recent security concerns, Fanwo stated:
“For every incident that happened, the Kogi State government had averted more than 20 that would have happened.”
Fanwo disclosed that the state has intensified efforts to protect vulnerable targets following credible intelligence pointing to possible threats.
“We are doing a lot to protect worship centers, to protect communities in the rural areas. We have a lot of intel that had to do with att[a]ck on worship centers,” he said.
The Commissioner further revealed that the state governor recently convened a high-powered security council meeting involving religious leaders, where security tips and intelligence were shared to forestall threats. This proactive move, according to him, helped avert incidents similar to those recorded elsewhere.
Fanwo noted that the government is “investing heavily” in security logistics and deploying personnel to the most affected areas. However, he urged residents to also take personal precautions:
“We are protecting these people, we are providing enough security in rural areas. But at the same time, we should also be very conscious of the fact that we also have roles to play by avoiding places that will make us vulnerable,” Fanwo said.
